Dell, Intel Claim World's Thinnest Tablet

E-mail Print PDF

Dell CEO Michael Dell and and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich reveal what they claim is the thinnest tablet yet at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) keynote-- the Dell Venue 8 7000, a tablet all of 6mm thick.

Dell Venue 8 7000Powered by a 64-bit quad-core Atom Z3500 processor, the Venue 8 7000 features a 2560x1600 8.4-inch OLED display, runs on Android 4.4 and comes inside a somewhat unusual design with a significant bezel on left-hand side housing a speaker grille and a camera sensor array.

The camera is actually another first, being the first tablet application of RealSense, the Intel "enhanced photography solution." As the company puts it RealSense "creates a high-definition depth map to enable measurement, refocus and selective filters with a touch of a finger."

In other words it allows for novel features, such as measuring distances and objects within photos, photo refocusing during the editing process and even 3D object scanning.

Allowing for such editing features is Dell Gallery software.

More details on the Venue 8 7000 will be available closer to its release date, which should be during the 2014 holiday season.
