Alienware Amplifies Laptop Gaming

Alienware launches an interesting accessory together with its latest Alienware 13 gaming laptop-- the Graphics Amplifier, a standalone box adding desktop-level graphics power to the laptop.

Alienware AmplifeierAt 2.5cm thick, the Alienware 13 is the thinnest from the company, and as such it cannot carry the kind of hardware found in desktop gaming rigs. Enter the Graphics Amplifier, which houses full length, dual-height graphics cards such as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 600 series or AMD Radeon HD 5000 series. It connects to the Alienware 13 via proprietary USB/PCIe cable, and promises to push enough bandwidth to drive "desktop graphics experiences."

The Graphics Amplifier also features a 460W internal power supply within an easy-access design, four USB 3.0 ports and customisable LEDs. So far it is only usable with the Alienware 13, but the company hints at future compatibility.

As for the Alienware 13, the company says the laptop features an Intel Core i5 processor, GeForce GTX 860M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory and a display in either 1366x768, 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 resolution.

The Alienware 13 is available now, while the Graphics Amplifier ships from November 2014.
