MSI announces what it claims is the first VR-ready laptop-- the WT72 a bulky "mobile workstation" featuring graphics prowess powered by the latest Nvidia mobile GPU, the Quadro M5500.

MSI WT72Described as a pro-level device designed for "maximum performance," the WT72 comes in multiple configurations complete with 17.3-inch display, Intel Core-i7 or Xeon processors, up to 64GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Dynaudio speakers, Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 ports, and a dual-fan design promising "efficient heat dissipation."

However, the main draw remains the GPU. The Quadro M5500 is Nvidia's fastest mobile GPU yet, with 2048 cores and 8GB VRAM providing a 35% performance boost over previous models. The result also allows the connection of VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive to the laptop.

“The WT72 with Nvidia’s M5500 Quadro GPU is the world’s first VR Ready mobile workstation and can blaze through the most demanding tasks,” MSI says. “Nvidia powers our workstations, from the ultra-powerful WT72 to the super lightweight WS72 and WS62, and we are delighted to partner with them to drive the VR revolution into a new dimension.”

MSI still has to announce when the WT72 will actually hit the market.
