Toshiba launches a line of retail SSDs featuring 3D NAND technology-- the TR200, with 3 drives available in 240, 480 and 960GB capacities, all in a standard 2.5-inch form factor.

Toshiba TR200The TR200 SSDs carry 3rd generation 64-layer BiCS 3D flash, and offer 6Gbps connectivity via SATA interface. Sequential read/write speeds clock at 555 and 525MB/s respectively, while random read/write performance reaches up to 80000 and 87000 IOPS. In addition the drives also promise low power consumption of 1.6W, which Toshiba claims is a 60% reduction compared to rival solutions.

However the drives do not include specific DRAM for buffering duties, meaning there is no drive encryption. What Toshiba does include is a roster of OCZ drive utilities, allowing customers to check on vitals and secure-erase if required.

“We are excited to provide consumers with the new TR200 series, our first retail branded SATA 6Gbit/s drives to leverage state-of-the-art Toshiba 64-layer TLC BiCS flash,” the company says. “Seeking to provide enhanced real world performance and value to customers, the TR200 SSDs were engineered from the ground up utilizing the latest 3D flash memory technology to be a cost-effective and power-optimised storage solution for desktop and mobile upgraders, gamers, and system builders.”
