Gigabyte Claims "Tactical Gaming Monitor"

What makes a "tactical gaming monitor"? We can't tell, even as Gigabyte uses the phrase to describe the Aorus AD27QD, a 27-inch gaming monitor promising "exclusive features" allowing for even better gameplay.

Aorus tactical monitorThe AD27QD features a 2590 x 1440 IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms (MPRT) response time, together with 178-degree viewing angles and 10-bit colour meeting 95% of the DCI-P3 standards. Also included is AMD Radeon FreeSync technology for tear-free gameplay when paired with compatible AMD graphics cards, and HDR via VESA-certified DisplayHDR 400 HDR.

The monitor has a design Gigabyte says is reminiscent of "the dive of a falcon," with a glowing falcon head on the stand and wings on the back of the panel. The stand features cable routing and power brick for a clean design, and allows pivot, tilt, swivel and height adjustment. Connectivity comes through x2 HDMI, x1 DisplayPort 1.4 and x2 USB passhthrough ports, as well as headphone and microphone jacks.

On the "tactical" side of things, the AD27QD has a number of baked-in settings, such as a reticule, frame-rate monitoring and even noise cancelling. Being handled by the monitor itself, such features do not affect the PC CPU and are not detectable by anti-cheating software. The features are accessible via dashboard, and can be controlled via mouse and keyboard.

The AD27QD ships from January 2019.
