Ovum forecasts the digital music industry's WW revenues will reach $20bn by 2015-- showing CAGR of 24% from 2011 to 2015.

What will drive such growth? According to Ovum, it'll be strong growth in subscription-based music services.

PC Gaming Spending To Boost Up

Jon Peddie Research (JPR) predicts WW PC gaming hardware spending will get a welcome +27% gain this year, jumping to over $22b across the entire market.

The analyst says such a jump is due to a number of influences-- the natural PC harware purchase cycle (as seen from historical inflection points), modern PC games' increasing system demands, cheaper high-resolution displays, SSDs, and digital distribution services' (like Steam and Direct2Drive) convenience.

W.W. PC Market Grows Thanks to Tablets

Canalys reports the global PC industry shows growth of 19% in Q4 2010 over Q4 20009-- since if one counts tablets as PCs.

W. Europe's PC market shows 10.7% growth-- while C. and E. Europe show 38.4% growth.

In fact the analyst says the majority of Q4 market growth is thanks to rising tablet demand. The analyst says that while tablets are not attractive to first-time or low-income buyers, they are increasingly popular as additional computing devices.

PC Market's W. European Slight Decline

Gartner reports W. Europe Q4 2010 PC shipments total 19.4m-- a 4.4% decline when compared to Q4 2009.

The analyst says the PC market continues what it calls its "downward spiral", with W. European shipments declining by 8.1% between October and end of December 2010. As PC vendors remain cautious and delay orders, mobile PC shipments in the consumer market decline by 2% in the same period.

The online channel is up 78% in 2010 and is recession-proof, concludes ICEcat based on its annual tabulation of the usage of data-sheets of their open catalog project.

During 2010 ICEcat facilitated 874 million data-sheet downloads for products from 5228 different tech brands by more than 12,700 different online channel partners from 87 different countries.

Digital download sales slow rapidly slow down as consumers switch to internet radio and video streaming sites, Reuters reports.

In fact, 2010's small gain in track sales (recorded as 5% on November 21st) comes from albums, according to Nielsen Soundscan. On the same day, digital album sales were up 12%-- compared to the same period in 2009's 17%.

Gartner Slashes Previous PC Shipment Predictions

Gartner revises its WW PC shipment forecasts-- shipments are to grow by 14.3% over 2009 (352.4m units), down from 17.9% in its September forecast.

It also slashes 2011 shipment forecasts-- to 15.9% increase over 2010 (409m units) instead of 18.1%.

The reason for these reductions? Weaker consumer demand thanks to growing interest in tablet devices (such as the iPad). Users will increasingly prefer such devices alongside next-generation smartphones for voice and light data consumption.

The CEA says CE spending in USA will reach historic highs this Christmas, despite an overall decline in gift spending.

The association's 17th Annual CE Holiday Purchase Patterns Study shows IT and CE remain the "hottest" gifts to give and receive. Laptops are the most desired gift for this season, according to the CEA.

Half of customers plan to buy a CE gift for children on their lists, 20% will buy a CE gift for their spuouse/significant other and 29% will buy CE for themselves.
