Computex 2018 sees Gigabyte announce a first-- memory, specifically DDR4 modules sold under the Auros brand. So far the company offers one kit, an RGB Fusion-compatible option weighing at 16GB (2 x 8GB).

The RAM comes in the shape of a dual-channel kit with 3200MHz top speed and C16 latency. It runs at 1.35v and includes a silver heatspreader together with lighting compatible with Gigabyte Fusion Link for customers wanting to synch system and peripheral lighting and effects. The company does not specify the amount of LEDs inside the RAM, but it appears to be multi-zone programmable.

Samsung starts mass production of 32GB DDR4 SoDIMMs using 10nm-class process technology, aimed mainly at gaming laptops providing "significantly more capacity, higher speeds, and lower energy consumption."

“Samsung’s 32GB DDR4 DRAM modules will deliver gaming experiences on laptops more powerful and immersive than ever before,” the company says. “We will continue to provide the most advanced DRAM portfolios with enhanced speed and capacity for all key market segments including premium laptops and desktops.”

According to the company, the 32GB module offers double the capacity compared to the 2014 16GB SoDIMM based on 20nm DDR4, while being 11% faster and 39% more energy efficient. The 32GB module packs 16 Samsung 16Gb DDR4 DRAM chips, and promises speeds of up to 2666Mbps. Samsung also claims a laptop equipped with two 32GB DDR4 modules consumes less than 4.6W in active mode and 1.4W in idle, a power usage reduction of around 39% compared to gaming-oriented laptops equipped with 16GB modules.

ADATA XPG launches the Spectrix D80-- the first DDR4 RGB memory modules from the company featuring hybrid liquid-air cooling through a combination of liquid and aluminium heatsinks.

Dubbed "Jellyfish," the cooling concept uses two heatsinks. The liquid heatsink is hermetically sealed with non-conductive fluid. Meanwhile the aluminium heatsink delivers thermal cooling together with thermally conductive materials on the PCB. The liquid inside the heatsink also helps make the memory look more attractive, thanks to built-in RGB lighting.

Ballistix announces the Tactical Tracer RGB DDR4-- memory modules available in 8 or 16GB densities in graded kits offering speeds up to 3000 MT/s and capacity reaching 64GB.

The modules feature 16 RGB LEDs per module, as divided in 8 zones. To further add customisation, customers can remove the light bar and 3D print own designs. Other features from the Tactical series are present, such as XMP profiles, black PCB and custom heat spreaders.
