The Wifi Alliance has a proposal to deliver a "broad footprint of uniform wifi service"-- EasyMesh, a standard bringing together the mesh networking technologies employed by different vendors.
As the organisation puts it, EasyMesh will provide customers and service providers with a selection of interoperable devices across difference brands to ensure wide and reliable wifi coverage. The technology coordinates multiple access points into a "unified and intelligent" wifi network able to autonomously aid all areas of the home for complete coverage.
In addition, setup promises to be easy via smartphone, tablet or other user devices, and EasyMesh monitors conditions and self-adapts as needed. Being a software standard, EasyMesh products should also retain interoperability with future versions, and the standard offers assurance of security and accepted protocols.
A number of companies already express support for EasyMesh, including Broadcom, AirTies, Arris and Assia.
