AMD Takes to E3 2019 to launch what it describes as "the world’s first 16-core mainstream desktop processor"-- the 3rd gen Ryzen 9 3950X, a CPU promising boost speeds reaching up to 4.7GHz with 72MB of cache.
The 3950X follows the Computex 2019 launch of the 3900X, a 12-core AMD offering. The 16-core CPU offers 32 threads and 72MB cache, and while the boost clock runs at an aforementioned 4.7GHz AMD claims its overclocking team has managed to push it to no less than 5.37GHz. Another consideration is thermal design power stands at a 105W, the same as the 3900X, allowing for more efficiency from the CPU.
In further details, the chip consists of two Zen 2 8-core chiplets paired with an IO die offering 24 PCIe 4.0 lanes. It is based on the AM4 socket, meaning it is best suited for use with an X570 motherboard.

The 3950X should ship on September 2019.
