The Canalys Channels Forum in Barcelona sees Lenovo announce a Q2 2020 release for the Foldable PC, a device featuring a 13-inch flexible display making part of the premium ThinkPad X1 range.

First announced back in May 2019, the yet unnamed device is an actual "full-fledged laptop with a foldable screen," and not a tablet or hybid. As The Register reports Lenovo says the hardware is essentially finished, but it is dependent on Microsoft on the software side of things. As such, the device will probably run on Windows 10X, the "expression" of Windows 10 designed for foldable device.

The Thinkpad foldable PC is based on a flexible 13.3-inch LG OLED panel offering 2K resolution (or the equivalent of two 9.6-inch displays). It is touch-sensitive, and can handle input from both fingers or a stylus. The device features a clamshell form factor, with a torque hinge allowing for different modes (tablet, book, clamshell) much like Yoga series devices. However Lenovo is still to detail the actual hardware powering the device.

Lenovo will hardly be the only company pushing a foldable take on the PC come 2020-- Asus, Dell, HP and Microsoft itself all have plans for such devices in the near future. That said, we'll have to wait and see whether the form factor will prove to be a hit or remain little more than a mere novelty.
