Chinese Android gaming device maker GDP takes on tiny notebook computers with the Pocket-- an notebook with a 7-inch display, making it the size of a larger paperback book.

GDP PocketThe Pocket is actually the second notebook PC from the company. Back in 201 GDP crowdfunded the WIN, a curious machine one can describe as a cross between a Windows 10 notebook and a handheld gaming device. Following the WIN's successful launch GDP wants to cover more consumer segments, since it aims the Pocket at "fashionable women, geeks and successful people."

As mentioned earlier, the Pocket has a 7-inch 1920 x 1024 display. It carries an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 CPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a battery promising up to 12 hours of use on a single charge. Construction is in magnesium alloy, while the OS of choice is either Windows 10 or Ubuntu Linux.

On the ports side the Pocket offers USB 3.0, USB-C, HDMI and a 3.5mm jack, and wireless connectivity comes through 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n wifi and Bluetooth 4.1. Since the device is so small it lacks a touchpad-- instead users have to make do with a ThinkPad-style trackpoint.

The Pocket is currently available as a preorder on Indiegogo, where it already smashed an initial $200000 pledge goal. Shipments are to start from June 2017.
