HMD Global announces a non-throwback Nokia-branded phone-- the Nokia 7.1, a smartphone featuring what the company dubs "PureDisplay" technology offering "high contrast ratio, greater clarity and enhanced colours across all content."

Nokia 7.1The 5.84-inch 2280 x 1080 display handles HDR10 content, with a dynamic contrast ratio reaching 1000000:1. It even converts SDR content to HDR, via dedicated 16-bit engine, and adjust brightness and contrast according to ambient light conditions. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, together with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (expandable to 400GB via microSD card) and 3060mAh battery.

The phone sees a continuation of the HMD Global partnership with Zeiss Optics with a dual rear-facing camera array consisting of a main 12MP lens with f/1.8 aperture and secondary 5MP lens. In the front notch is an 8MP lens with f/2.0 aperture able to snap selfies with a portrait-style blur effect. The phone is capable of taking "bothies," or snapping the front and rear cameras simultaneously for a unique photo.

In further Nokia 7.1 details, the device is built out of CNC-machined aluminium, offers USB-C connectivity and includes a 3.5mm headphone jack. The OS of choice is Android One with a guarantee of 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of monthly security updates. HMD Global also presents a pair of audio accessories with the phone, namely the Nokia True Wireless Earbuds and Nokia Pro Wireless Earphones.

The Nokia 7.1 hits "selected markets" on October 2018 in two colours, Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel.
