Mac upgrade specialist Other World Computing (OWC) confirms customers can boost the 27-inch iMac refresh revealed at the WWDC 2017 keynote by increasing the amount of RAM from 32 to 64GB.

2017 iMacThe refreshed 27-inch iMac comes in stock 3 configurations, all featuring Intel Kaby Lake processors, Thunderbolt 3 ports, faster graphics and optional memory and storage upgrades. The 3.5GHz and 3.8GHz 27-inch models carry up to 64GB RAM, but the lower-end 3.4GHz option only offers up to 32GB RAM, leading to questions as to whether the limit is hardware-related or not.

Enter OWC. The company tested the 3.4GHz iMac through the MaxRAM Certification program, a series of in-house laboratory tests determining the maximum amount of RAM a Mac can carry. The result points out the iMac model actually supports up to 64GB RAM, even if Apple does not offer that option itself.

As a result, OWC now offers 2017 27-inch iMac memory upgrade modules-- including a 64GB Kit (64GB x 4) customers can install themselves. The 27-inch iMacs have 4 user-accessible memory slots with support for up to 16GB per slot, and the company promises all upgrades are "assured to perform flawlessly."

Also included is a lifetime advance replacement warranty and money back guarantee.
