Corsair Buys Elgato Gaming

Corsair sets to become a bigger player in the lucrative gaming market as it acquires Elgato Gaming, the Elgato division handling game streaming, video capture and laptop docking products.

Elgato GamingFinancial details of the deal are not available.

The acquisition includes the Elgato brand-- and since Elgato (the company) now consists solely of the Eve smart home products group, it is renaming itself as Eve Systems. In turn, the Elgato brand is to operate as a separate brand within Corsair, probably maintaining the current product lineup.

Founded in 2002, Elgato made its name in gaming with a range of devices, including capture cards for streamers, the Stream Deck device simplifying streaming, green chroma key panels and Thunderbolt 2/3 docks. Corsair never offered such products, and as such it makes sense for Elgato to remain an independent operation with its own Munich, Germany HQ.

That said, the Elgato smart home device business is larger than the gaming business-- the now Eve Systems offers dozens of products, with a good number compatible with Apple HomeKit.
