The Next Microsoft Event: 2 October

Microsoft sends invites for a 2 October 2019 event-- a notable date, since it coincides with the company's 2018 hardware showcase hosting the launch of the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2, among other devices.

Surface eventThe actual invite does not directly tell what it it actually involves, but it is safe to assume it will feature at least one new Surface product. The rumours are many, but the most compelling insist Microsoft will reveal "Centaurus," a dual-screen device 2 years in the making acting as the vanguard for a wave of dual-screen hybrid device set to launch in 2020.

According to The Verge, development on the 2-screen device has advanced to the point it has been shown at an internal meeting back in June 2019. However it is not certain it will advance to becoming an actual product-- after all, in 2014 Microsoft famously killed off the Surface Mini just weeks before the scheduled reveal-- even if unnamed sources tell The Verge the dual-screen tablet is currently set for a 2020 release.

Even if Centaurus does not materialise, Microsoft will surely have plenty to show off at the October 2019 event. As such, we expect refreshes of most, if not all, the Surface catalog, including the Book, Laptop, Go and Pro.
