Japanese eInk Typewriter Arrives Westward

The Pomera is the kind of quirky device that can only be Japanese-- a pocket ePaper typewriter with a foldable design, perfect for what maker King Jim describes as "digital memos."

Pomera KeyboardEssentially a miniature word processor, the Pomera on offer in our part of the world is just one of a line of such devices that has been available the land of the rising sun since 2008. It features a 6-inch eInk display hidden within a tri-fold keyboard complete with "generously sized" keys set in a Japanese layout.

Powering the Pomera are just x2 AA batteries, with life reaching around 20 hours. Users can save typed texts on microSD for transfer to PC or smartphone. Another option for data transfer is, curiously enough, QR code.

King Jim is looking to sell the Pomera via Kickstarter. Should the crowdfunding campaign prove successful shipments to the US are set to start from November 2018.
