Razer Intros Core X Chroma GPU Enclosure

E-mail Print PDF

Customers wanting a graphics boost for their laptops can get a Razer option-- the Core X Chroma, a Thunderbolt 3 external GPU enclosure (eGPU) featuring a 700W power supply as well as USB and ethernet ports.

Razer Core X ChromaDesigned to work with a wide array of Thunderbolt 3 (with external graphics support) Windows laptops and MacBooks, the Core X Chroma improves on the previous Core X eGPU with the addition of, well, Chroma lighting. It features two RGB lighting zones users can customise via Synapse 3 software, with a total of 16.8 million colours to synchronise dynamically wit onscreen gaming action.

The Core X Chroma also features an upgraded 700W ATX power supply, meaning it should be able to power most, if not all, graphics cards. It houses up to x3 slot-wide desktop graphics cards, and card support includes Nvidia RTX, GTX and Quadro, as well as AMD Radeon and Radeon Pro (Mac users, alas, can only use AMD GPUs due to macOS limitations). Card installation should be easy, since the eGPU opens with a simple slide and lock mechanism.

The back of the eGPU features x4 USB-A ports to either power or charge desktop accessories and other devices, as well as a Thunderbolt 3 port able to charge USB-C laptops up to 100W. The ethernet port provides wired internet connectivity, of course. The chassis features perforated sides, and the inside includes cooling fans.

Razer says the Core X Chroma should be available "soon" in a number of European markets, including the UK, France, Germany and the Nordics.
