AMD admits it is delaying the launch of the Ryzen 9 3950X by two months, with the reason being high demand leading to a shortage of the components required to build the 16-core desktop CPU.
"We are focusing on meeting the strong demand for our 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors in the market and now plan to launch both the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and initial members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor family in volume this November," AMD posts on Reddit. "We are confident that when enthusiasts get their hands on the world’s first 16-core mainstream desktop processor and our next-generation of high-end desktop processors, the wait will be well worth it."
First announced back at E3 2019, the Ryzen 9 3950X was slated for a September release. It is aimed at gamers, and boasts 16 cores and 32 threads running at a base speed of 3.5GHz users can boost to 4.7GHz. Now it will be available on November 2019, unless hampered by further shortages or other such issues.
Interestingly the news of the delay comes with the reveal of a new AMD product-- 3rd generation Threadripper processors, also set to launch on November 2019. Details on the processors are scant, but they will start at 24 cores, making them ideal for customers wanting a single-socket CPU with an excess of 12 cores.
