Apple quietly releases the 16-inch MacBook Pro-- a laptop the iPhone maker designs as nothing less than "the world's best pro notebook," featuring a brighter 16-inch Retina Display and a keyboard with a "refined scissor mechanism."

Aimed primarily at professional customers such as developers, photographers and artists, the new MacBook Pro carries up to 9th gen Intel Core i9 (octa-core) processors together with up to 64GB RAM, 8T SSD and dual graphics in the shape of Intel UHD Graphics 630 and a choice of AMD Radeon Pro 5000M series GPU with up to 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. The result is a machine better able for GPU-intensive tasks, particularly in the highest-end configurations.

To allow for such internals, the 16-inch MacBook Pro features a thermal solution able to "sustain higher performance for longer periods of time." To do so, it uses a fan design with a larger impeller and extended blades, as well as bigger vents and a larger heatsink. The result is a system able to sustain up to 12 more watts during intensive workloads compared to the previous MacBook Pro model.

The display handles 3072 x 1920 resolution with 500 nit brightness and P3 wide colour gamut. As for the keyboard, Apple moved away from the troubled butterfly switches of the previous model in favour of scissor switches with 1mm key travel. It also has a redesigned Touch Bar making space for a dedicated Esc key and a fingerprint sensor built into the power key.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is available now.
