Ubiquity, maker of the UniFi wifi access points and networking gear, launches the AmpliFi Alien-- a consumer Wifi 6 (802.11ax) router offering both wired and wireless networking within a distinctive cylindrical device.

As well as the aforementioned Wifi 6 capability, the AmpliFi Alien includes four LAN ports on the rear, together with a single WAN port. It promises 8x8 MIMO (both 2.4 and 5GHz) performance, as well as a separate 5GHz radio for Wifi 5 (802.11ac) connectivity. Setup comes through a companion AmpliFi mobile device app complete with DHCP server, port forwarding and general wifi settings.

Unlike other high-end modems the AmpliFi Alien comes within a minimalist cylindrical design, if one featuring a small touchscreen on the front detailing connectivity status. An LED on the bottom indicates whether the router is configured and ready for use. Ubiquity says users can have it set up an isolated guest network, and have other AmpliFi devices act as VPN endpoints.

The AmpliFi Alien is available now.
