Computex has already been rescheduled to September 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but DigiTimes reports the majority of PC hardware makers, including some of the biggest names, will probably still skip the 2020 show.

Computex noshowAccording to the report, "Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI), Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), TUL and Chaintech have all decided to be absent from the tradeshow." The story mentions just one company, Asus, with current plans to participate in the event. Meanwhile the biggest names in the PC industry, namely AMD, Intel and Nvidia, are "unlikely" to appear at the show, a decision possibly leading to any number of product announcement delays.

Such decisions come as Taiwan plans to keep anti-coronavirus measures in place, at least for the time being. The densely populated country was one of the first hit by the virus, but fast and effective measures lead to just 440 confirmed cases and 7 deaths in a country of 23 million people. As such, it should come to no surprise that, at least according to the Financial Times, the Taiwanese government has no plans to open borders before the discovery of an effective vaccine or medication.

In the meantime, companies will take to the internet to make their announcement. For instance, Nvidia will take to YouTube to broadcast the GTC 2020 keynote by founder and CEO Jensen Huang, set for 14 March 2020.
