The Seagate Green and XT HDD brands are no more-- Seagate feeds them all to a single brand, the Barracuda, in a bid to slim down a bloated inventory channel.
The announcement comes with the first HDD in the new series, combining features from both Green and XT drives and simply named Barracuda.
It carries 1TB platters (the highest density Seagate offers) and runs at 7200RPM with 64MB chache,using the new 4K standard. Environmentally-conscious customers should be pleased to know it matches Green series standards, complying with the REACH standard and construction in 70% recyclable materials.
Seagate is also launching the Barracuda XT, a hybrid drive carrying a 4GB SSD to increase cache speeds.
