AMD, Dell, Intel, Lenovo, Samsung and LG announce plans to adopt digital display interfaces like DisplayPort and HDMI to PC.

Thus analog display outputs like VGA will no longer be supported by 2015, Intel and AMD say. HDMI and DisplayPort allow for slimmer laptop designs, support higher resolutions and provide deeper colours than VGA.

Eizo announces what it describes as the world's first glasses-free 3D desktop monitor, the Duravision FDF2301-3D.

The 23" display handles 1920 x 1080 resolution and aims at the industrial market.

Eizo's directional backlight technology produces the 3D effect as it displays 2 different images (combined to form the 3D picture) in a time lag.

The manufacturer says the monitor should display stable HD 3D images viewable from all angles.

It should be available by Q2 2010.

Viewsonic says its V3D241wm-LED 3D monitor is ideal for both gaming and movies. The 24" screen is the company's first 3D-LED monitor.

Framerate is 120Hz with 2ms response time. Brightness level is 300 nits.

It comes with a pair of active shutter glasses.

The model features x2 SRS 2W speakers and is Windows 7 and AMD certified.

Cisco launches ūmi  (prounounced You-Me), a home videoconferencing system. A premium single-function product ($600 in USA for camera STB and remote), it faces competition from smaller, cheaper (as much as 4X) multi-function video conferencing rivals.

Acer's C20 pico-projector is easy to carry around - it's the size of a smartphone.

The projector connects to either laptop, mobile phone or camcorder via USB or HDMI, and has an integrated SDHC card reader.

Projection sizes vary from 5" up to 66", with 2000:1 contrast ratio and WVGA resolution in 16:9 format. The device combines DLP and RGB LED technologies, which Acer says offer a lamp lifetime of up to 20000 hours.

Speakers are also built in the projector.

Led by the price gap between PDP and LCD panel, Q2 shipments of PDP module shipments recorded 5M units and an increase of 27% M/M or 53% Y/Y.

DisplaySearch reports pocket projectors will grow from 500,000 units and $117m in revenues in 2009 to 142m units and $13.9 billion in 2018, (70% CAGR for revenues and 88% in units).
