IFA 2020 Gets Real-Life Go-Ahead

IFA 2020 will happen as in-person event after all-- if in the form of an invite-only "Special Edition" event taking place over just three days, specifically 3-5 September 2020.

The limits in attendee numbers are due to, of course, the coronavirus (aka Covid-19) pandemic. After all, the German government has banned all events with over 5000 participants until 24 October, leading organisers gfu and Messe Berlin to come up with an "innovative new concept" for the venerable trade show. The organisers add the IFA 2020 concept was developed in collaboration with German public health authorities to ensure the health and safety of all participants, and as such the show will not be open to the public.

No Show from Big Names at Computex 2020?

Computex has already been rescheduled to September 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but DigiTimes reports the majority of PC hardware makers, including some of the biggest names, will probably still skip the 2020 show.

According to the report, "Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI), Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), TUL and Chaintech have all decided to be absent from the tradeshow." The story mentions just one company, Asus, with current plans to participate in the event. Meanwhile the biggest names in the PC industry, namely AMD, Intel and Nvidia, are "unlikely" to appear at the show, a decision possibly leading to any number of product announcement delays.

The Next Cancelled Tradeshow: Gamescom 2020

A German ban of large events until the end of August 2020 means the cancellation of yet another trade event-- Gamescom 2020, as organisers Koelnmesse announce the event will not take place, be it in the business or entertainment areas.

Originally set to take place on 25-29 August at the Cologne Exhibition Centre, Gamescom 2020 was set to be one of the largest gaming events of the year. It attracts an audience of nearly 400000 people, far rivaling the American likes of E3 and PAX, whose attendance totals around 50000-70000. However, the scale means it falls foul of recently established German regulation on mass events, and as such cannot happen.

Computex Postponed Due to Coronavirus

Many events all across the world are being postponed or outright cancelled due to the coronavirus (aka Covid-19), and Computex is no exception, as the 2020 edition of the Taipei show has been rescheduled for September 2020.

Originally set to take place on 2-6 June, Computex 2020 is now set to take place on 28-30 September. As for the choice of dates, organisers Taitra say that, according to a perhaps overly hopeful McKinsey epidemic report, the pandemic should be under control by Q2 2020 in East Asia, before the situation slows down in Europe and the US by June.

What's New at IFA 2019?

It's September, meaning the 2019 edition of International Funkausstellung-- aka IFA-- is upon us. All the major names, including the likes of Samsung, LG and Lenovo, will be present, together with smaller European counterparts, bringing plenty of product launches and at least a few novelties to the show.

IFA 2019 marks the 95th year of the storied trade show. It occupies 161200 square metres at the Messe Berlin and hosts no less than 1814 exhibitors making a who's who of CE brands. The show is open to the public from 6-11 September, but 4-5 September are the press days, meaning this is when the major announcements take place. In fact some companies have already released information on what will be on show, allowing us to draw a clearer picture as to what expect.

IFA Goes Green at Sustainability Park

As customers become increasingly aware of the issues affecting the environment, Global Fairs launches the International Sustainability Park (ISP) at IFA 2019-- an area set to help the industry better understand what consumers expect of supposedly green-aware businesses.

The ISP is an initiative involving some industry and green product associations. According to Global Fairs managing director Jan Nintemann, it is not the "typical" green industry event. Instead of just focusing on recycling and toxic substances, the ISP conference covers which changes younger generations expect from consumer products and marketing, as well as how companies can start a true green dialogue and the role trade shows play in pushing climate action to industries.

CeBIT is Dead: Murder, Suicide or Natural Causes?

We may never see a proper autopsy but the world's largest IT show is no more-- CEBIT is shut down despite what seemed like almost obligatory support from the German IT industry.

Sure, parts of CEBIT might now be merged into Deutsche Messe's biggest success, HANNOVER MESSE. After all, CeBIT emerged as a full event from its start as a specialized exhibition area within Hannover Messe.

But there was far more than industrial IT in CEBIT 2018. Now there will be a vacuum and, we predict, other organizations Continue reading...

Owned and produced by CTA, CES 2019 will run from January 8th -11th in Las Vegas with 4500 exhibitors across 2.75M net square feet (260K net square meters).

Now in its second year, CES Unveiled Amsterdam brought together 634 attendees from 19 countries, including 64 exhibitors from the Netherlands and surrounding regions. It will be followed by a similar CES Unveiled event in Paris on Oct. 3rd.

With the US Ambassador to the Netherlands, Pete Hoekstra, and Royal Highness Prince Constantijn van Oranje-Nassau attending as speakers, CES Unveiled reflects the industry’s political importance. For CES 2019, CTA will again partner with StartupDelta, an independent public-private partnership where the main innovation hubs in the Netherlands work with the ministries of Economic Affairs and Education Culture and Science, the startup community, and other partners.
