In a clear effort to not remain behind Apple and Google in voice-controlled assistant race Samsung buys Viv, the next AI project from the creators of Siri, for an unspecified sum.

VivViv was co-founded by Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer and Chris Brigham, who left Siri after it was acquired by Apple in order to start Viv in 2012. Post-acquisition Viv will continue running as an independent company, if one providing services to Samsung and related platform.

“Unlike other existing AI-based services, Viv has a sophisticated natural language understanding, machine learning capabilities and strategic partnerships that will enrich a broader service ecosystem,” Samsung says. “Viv was built with both consumers and developers in mind. This dual focus is also what attracted us to Viv as an ideal candidate to integrate with Samsung home appliances, wearables and more, as the paradigm of how we interact with technology shifts to intelligent interfaces and voice control.”

Dell claims to offer the "world's first wireless charging 2-in-1" mobile device-- the Latitude 7285, a 12-inch portable PC promising to be thin and light while meeting the needs of commercial clients.

Dell LatitudeFirst seen back at CES 2017, the Latitude 7285 is also described as the "world's thinnest Windows-based commercial 2-in-1." For the record, it is 7.25mm thick, 274.8mm wide and 209.2mm, while weight totals 0.68kg. It carries a 12.3-inch 2880 x 1920 resolution display with an anti-glare panel, and can be configured with a variety of processors, from Intel Core i5-7Y54 to Core i7-7Y75 (all 4.5W solutions), and M.2 PCIe NVMe storage from 128GB to 256GB.

The aforementioned wireless charging uses the WiTricity standard and requires extra hardware-- specifically either an included USB-C 45W adapter or an optional wireless charging mat (PM30W171). Use of the charging mat requires an optional Dell Latitude wireless charging keyboard.

Nvidia Aims 3GB GTX 1050 at Gamers

Nvidia launches a lower-cost video card option aimed specifically at gamers-- the GTX 1050 3GB, a card with a faster base clock but lower memory bandwidth, positioning it between the 2GB GTX 1050 and the 4GB 1050 Ti.

Nvidia GTX 1050The reason the GTX 1050 3GB targets gamers (if those on a budget) as opposed to crypto-miners lies in the amount of memory. Crypto-mining for currencies such as Ethereum requires a minimum of 3GB of VRAM, but such an amount is decent enough for games.
