Tech Data Recounts Numbers from Past 3 Years

IT distribution giant Tech Data rips up the financial results for fiscal 2011, 2012 and 2013 following the discovery of errors in the "vendor accounting" of UK subsidiary Computer 2000.

Tech DataAs a result Tech Data will recount the number and publish new results-- with the adjustments wiping out up to $33 million from previously reported net profits and cutting reported consolidated operating income by anything from $30m to $40m.

"Accordingly, investors should no longer rely upon the company's previously released financial statements and other financial data relating to these periods," the distributor states.

CEO Robert Dutkowsky adds "we are working diligently to resolve this matter as soon as possible. We do not plan to comment further during the course of the investigation unless any material developments arise."

Tech Data has 5 divisions beneath the Computer 2000 umbrella in the UK-- Computer 2000, Datech, Tech Data Mobile, Azlan and Maverick. It also owns the SCH distribution arm, SDG.

Mobile Fun Launches 20 International Websites

UK-based online mobile device accessory retailer Mobile Fun completes its "MF20" initiative and launches 20 international websites in early 2013.

Richard Moore Mobile FunNow the retailer has dedicated language and currency websites for 27 countries, and ships orders to over 50.

European Mobile Fun websites cover Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The international sites make around 36% of Mobile Fun total order volume, with Q4 2012 orders reaching over 46000 with 57% Y-o-Y growth. The retailer also forecasts £1.2 million EBITDA for the current financial year.

Tobii announces the next generation of eye trackers-- the PCEye Go and PCEye Pro, allowing users to control all PC functions using only their eyes.

Tobii GazeThe devices connect to either laptops or desktop PCs via USB and are ideal for customers with communication and rehabilitative disabilities wanting to surf the web, play games, use environmental controls and even work on spreadsheets and documents.

The PCEye Go is the smaller option, designed for laptop and smaller display use. The PCEye Pro is optimised for operation with larger monitors.

Once connected and attached to PCs (via magnetic mounting plates), the eye trackers work through Tobii Gaze Selection software and built-in on-screen keyboard (included) or the optional Tobii Communicator.

Samsung Confirms Wearable Plans

Samsung is set to rival Apple in yet another market segment-- wearable electronics. The Korean giant confirms with Bloomberg it is currently hard at work designing a smartwatch device of its own.

samsung watch"We've been preparing the watch product for so long,” Samsung mobile business VP Lee Young Hee says. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

Lee Young Hee gives neither hardware nor launch date details on the device, whose confirmation follows recently revealed rumours on a supposed Apple smartwatch.

Currently the biggest smartphone maker in the world, Samsung will launch three high-end handsets in 2013, including the Galaxy S 4 and Tizen-based device. But as the $358 billion mobile market reaches saturation, it comes to no surprise the industry is rushing towards new product offerings. Samsung's Lee puts it best, telling Bloomberg "the issue here is who will first commercialize [wearable technology] so consumers can use it meaningfully.”
