HP Shuffles Management as Sales Drop

E-mail Print PDF

In order to "drive ongoing turnaround" HP management gets a shuffle-- and drive the turnaround it needs to, since the company posts a -8% Y-o-Y decline on Q3 2013 revenues worth $27.2 billion.

HPNet earnings for the quarter drop by -15% Y-o-Y to $1.7bn.

All HP divisions bar software post Y-o-Y declines, causing CEO Meg Whitman to admit "total company Y-o-Y revenue growth in fiscal 2014 is unlikely... That said, I remain confident we are making progress in our turnaround."

Thus, in hopes to at least improve Enterprise Group business HP replaces chief Dave Donatelli with COO Bill Veghte, who retains his current responsibility over HP cloud efforts to effectively unite both portfolios under a single leader.

Omate believes it is on the cusp of ushering the "smartwatch 2.0" era of wearable electronics with the TrueSmart-- a smartwatch able to operate independently without need of a smartphone via microSIM slot.

Omate TruesmartThe microSIM slot hopefully lets the TrueSmart to fulfill the Dick Tracy promise, allowing users to make calls and send text messages directly from the device without need for tethering to a mobile device.

It is not the first smartwatch with standalone call-making capabilities, mind. The Burg 17 features a SIM card slot, as does the Neptune Pine.

However the TrueSmart hopes to impress further in the internals department-- running on Android 4.2, the device promises a 1.54-inch multitouch display, dual-core 1.3GHz Cortex A7 CPU, GPS, Bluetooth, audio speaker and microphone, 600mAh battery, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and a 5MP camera.

Ballmer Announces Retirement

Infamously bullish Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announces he is to retire within 12 months-- leaving the once technology leader with no clear successor, at least so far.

Ballmer“There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time,” Ballmer says. “We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.”

The news comes around 6 weeks after the "far-reaching realignment" of the company's management, part of an effort to create a "One Microsoft" out of a conglomerate with a payroll of over 90000 employees...

Microsoft already has a special committee directing the hunt for a replacement, with the likes of Bill Gates and independent board director John W. Thompson joining forces with executive recruiting firm Struggles International.

A "Stack" in Printer Concepts

Japanese designer Mugi Yamamoto has an interesting idea bringing back interest in the tired world of printers-- the Stack, a compact inkjet printer that "eats" its way down a stack of paper.

Stack printerThe concept eliminates the paper tray, the bulkiest element in most printers, and allows for a simplified, compact design the size of an A3 sheet of paper. It is also admittedly attractive, something we never imagined saying in reference to a printer!

Currently available in working prototype form, the Stack consists of a lightweight aluminium structure holding together components cannibalised from from various mobile printers. Rubber wheels regulate paper flow, pulling paper through the machine and allowing it to make its way down the stack.

Printed sheets of paper appears on top of the Stack.
